Sam has 25 years of embedding design thinking process within organisations. During this period, he has straddled academic and industry roles to understand the commercial challenges of undertaking innovation within business and the need to maintain high levels of research quality within academia. From this work, he has been able to understand and develop new engagement models between researchers and industry to ensure a stronger collaboration can be achieved, to enable an enhanced level of innovation.
Sam Bucolo has joined MLA as their Design Thinker in Residence to lead and implement a design led thinking adoption program within MLA and more broadly across the sector. Design led thinking is a process which enables firms to better understand their customer, build new business models and develop new leadership capabilities.
Prior to MLA Sam has led many government initiatives on embedding design led innovation within organisations, has held several Professorial and senior positions within Universities and has been a former entrepreneur. He is also an elected Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia and has received an Australian Design Honours from the Australian Design Centre. He remains a Professor of Design through an Adjunct Professorship with Swinburne University, Australia.
