Tuesday 22 March: Robotics, carbon farming and the circular food economy will be the key themes in focus at the Digital Agrifood Summit 2022 in Wagga Wagga on 1-2 June.

Hosted jointly by Food Agility Cooperative Research Centre and Charles Sturt University, the event brings together agrifood companies, farmers, technologists and scientists from across the country.

Keynote speakers include Barry Irvin AM, Chair of Bega Cheese, and Prof. David Lamb, Chief Scientist at Food Agility and an early pioneer of precision agriculture in Australia. The Gulbali Gala Dinner on 1June will be hosted by Stan Grant Jnr and feature an array of regionally sourced produce.

The Digital Agrifood Summit is a hands-on, practical look at the future of farming. Attendees will be invited to tour the Global Digital Farm, engage with expert panel discussions, visit exhibitions from agtech companies and watch showcases of the latest emerging research.

Food Agility CEO, Richard Norton, said the event aimed to get discussions about the future of food out of the capital cities and into the regions where food is produced.

“The transformation of agriculture isn’t happening in Sydney or Melbourne. It’s in the regions like the Riverina where farmers, scientists and technologists are working hand-in-hand,” Mr Norton said.

“We invite people to come and have a look at how new technologies are being developed and implemented and hear from the people who are making it happen.”

Charles Sturt Vice Chancellor, Professor Renee Leon PSM, said the University was leading the way when it came to education and research in digital agriculture in Australia.

“We have a commercial farm operating right here adjacent to the Wagga Wagga campus and are home to the Global Digital Farm and the AgriPark,”Professor Leon said.

“Wagga Wagga is becoming the epicentre for digital agriculture in Australia and we look forward to welcoming people from the local area as well as across the country to this exciting event.”
